Just before the story begins, in 1991, Dajana was living quietly in Belgrade, when a little voice in her head told her to go visit her parents in Vukovar. The country was at peace and she hadn't seen her family for a long time. She left for Vukovar and the play begins.

The first act is the chilling scene that was broadcast all over the world: the siege of Vukovar: people trapped in their bombed-out houses, unable to leave even to find food, there was no electricity, no heat, there was shooting everywhere. Dajana had just arrived the day before, and suddenly found herself in this hell.
"I survived because my parents had a garden in front of the house where they grew enough vegetables so we wouldn't starve. Sometimes when the shooting died down, I took a chance and went out to find some supplies that we needed. It was very hard surviving for 6 months under these conditions, but the important thing is that we did it. Unfortunately, many others were not so lucky."
